How to Use the Primedic Defi B Defibrillator
The Primedic Defi B is a portable defibrillator that can deliver electric shocks to the heart of a cardiac arrest patient. It is designed to be used by trained and authorized personnel only. This article will provide some basic instructions on how to use the Primedic Defi B defibrillator safely and effectively.
Before Using the Defibrillator
Before using the Primedic Defi B defibrillator, you should check the following:
The device is in a safe and reliable state. If the defibrillator cable or any other part is damaged, do not use the device.
The device has enough battery power. The Primedic Defi B has a rechargeable battery that can be charged by plugging it into a power outlet. The battery status is indicated by a green LED on the front panel of the device.
The device has passed the self-test. The Primedic Defi B performs a self-test every time it is switched on. The self-test results are displayed on the LCD screen and indicated by a green or red LED on the front panel of the device. If the self-test fails, do not use the device.
The device has the appropriate accessories. The Primedic Defi B comes with two adult paddles that can be attached to the defibrillator cable. The paddles have electrodes that deliver the electric shocks to the patient's chest. The device also has an optional pediatric paddle adapter that can be used for children under 8 years old or under 25 kg.
Using the Defibrillator
To use the Primedic Defi B defibrillator, follow these steps:
Switch on the device by pressing the ON/OFF button on the front panel of the device.
Select the energy level by pressing the ENERGY button on the front panel of the device. The energy level can be adjusted from 2 to 360 joules depending on the patient's condition and your training. The selected energy level is displayed on the LCD screen and indicated by a green LED on the front panel of the device.
Charge the device by pressing and holding the CHARGE button on the front panel of the device. The charging process takes about 10 seconds and is indicated by a red LED and an audible beep on the front panel of the device. When the device is fully charged, a green LED and a long beep will indicate that it is ready to shock.
Apply the paddles to the patient's chest according to your training. Make sure that there is good contact between the electrodes and the skin. Avoid placing the electrodes over pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, or metal implants.
Clear everyone away from the patient by shouting "Clear!" and checking that no one is touching or near the patient.
Deliver the shock by pressing both SHOCK buttons on both paddles simultaneously. A red LED and an audible beep will indicate that a shock has been delivered.
Check the patient's pulse and breathing after delivering the shock. If there is no pulse or breathing, start CPR according to your training.
If another shock is needed, repeat steps 2 to 6 until either a pulse or breathing is restored or until advanced medical help arrives.
